Roddy McKinney serves on the McKinney Capital Board of Directors and, most notably, founded McKinney Capital’s former holding, Satellites Unlimited, Inc. (SUI). He has over 40 years of entrepreneurial and small business experience, having built organizations and companies from the ground up. After serving in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, Roddy has succeeded in diverse settings, from building insurance sales forces from zero to several hundred agents to partnering with factories overseas.
Roddy believes that his greatest accomplishment is being self-employed, building businesses, and seeing others succeed within the business. He says that part of being successful is being number one. “If you are not the lead dog, the view never changes.” The best advice anyone has given him is to always remember where you came from, to stay humble, and remember you are no better than anyone and no one is better than you, and the Golden Rule—do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Roddy is an active supporter of several area charities, including Children’s Hospital, (Pastoral Care Unit) Cerebral Palsy, Mitchell’s Place, Birmingham Zoo, the University of South Alabama Athletic Department, and St. Mark’s of Vestavia. He is passionate about causes that help and develop children, as they are our future. Roddy is also a dedicated University of Alabama booster, where he provides scholarships to both the athletic department and business school.
When he is away from the office, Roddy spends his time enjoying college sports, creating things, and traveling.
